Archaeologists have uncovered an ancient Bronze Age sword dating to the late 14th century B.C. in the town of Nördlingen in Bavaria, the largest state in Germany. The 3,000-year-old artifact was unearthed at a three-person burial site. According to a statement by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Protection, the weapon had been preserved so well in the burial "it almost still shines." The sword is known as an octagonal on account of its elaborate octagonal hilt which only the most skilled smiths could cast.
