Bigfoot Spotted in British Columbia?

By Tim Binnall

A group of friends in British Columbia who were traveling home on Christmas night claim that their journey came to a sudden stop when they spotted what they believe was a Sasquatch. The curious encounter reportedly occurred along a highway near the community of Silverton. According to Erica Spink-D’Souza, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, their trip took an unexpected turn when the driver and the person on the passenger side of the car noticed something truly strange on the side of the road.

"They said it looked like a huge grizzly, or it was a large man, standing up," she recalled, noting that she missed out on seeing the mysterious beast from the backseat of the car. "We tried to turn around and look again," Spink-D'Souza lamented, "but it was gone." In an indication that the sighting was not a joke being made by the other people in the car, the group actually went through the trouble of returning to the scene later that night after they had put their kids to bed.

"We saw these tracks that were really alarming," Spink-D'Souza said, "they were bipedal tracks in a straight line into the woods." The group subsequently snapped some photos, which unfortunately have not been made public yet, and reported their sighting to the Bigfoot Field Research Group. The leader of the organization, Matt Moneymaker, subsequently declared that the markings were "un-hoax-able," arguing that they were not made by a prosaic creature and positing that it's unlikely a person was running around in the wilderness dressed as Bigfoot on Christmas night.

That said, a team of Sasquatch investigators who visited the site of the sighting ten days later put forward a less exciting theory for what could have made the tracks, proposing that they were probably produced by a moose. Despite that determination, Moneymaker wasn't quite convinced, musing that "I think there are moose tracks in the area, yes, but there are witnesses who said they did not see a moose." For her part, Spink-D'Souza merely looked back on the experience and marveled that "it leaves me with a sense of awe and wonderment on all the beautiful mysteries of this world."
