Canadian Man's Quest to Find Sasquatch Comes Back to Haunt Him in Divorce Case

A Canadian man's quest to find Sasquatch came back to haunt him when his excursions in search of the famed cryptid wound up being the surprising centerpiece of his divorce case. According to a local media report, the unnamed British Columbia resident and his wife separated in 2020 after he surreptitiously brought an ex-girlfriend with him on a Bigfoot-hunting trip to Vancouver Island. Upon discovering his clandestine companion, his spouse was understandably outraged and promptly ended their relationship. Remarkably, beyond being the catalyst for his marriage falling apart, the man's search for Sasquatch was also cited in a judge's decision concerning alimony.

In his divorce filing, the man requested spousal support due to what he claimed were debilitating injuries that he suffered nine years ago during yet another Bigfoot hunt. The fractured ankle and vertebrae that came about from slipping on some ice, he asserted, left him unable to "earn income from employment of some kind or other." As such, he asked the court to order his ex-wife to pay him alimony. However, his request was rebuffed by the judge presiding over the case as, Justice Robin Baird noted, the man has since been able to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including "exploring remote areas of B.C. in search of Sasquatch."

He also observed that the man had previously told the court "that he rates his own intellectual abilities to be far above average," which suggested that he should be able to find employment despite his alleged physical injuries. Ultimately the case was decided with neither party receiving spousal support, leaving the man free to continue looking for Bigfoot should he be able to muster up the funds. As for what one imagines is his sizeable collection of Sasquatch books and other ephemera, while the matter was seemingly not addressed in the proceedings, we're guessing that his ex-wife had no problem handing all of it over to him.
