Canoeists Report Puzzling 'Thump' While Crossing Loch Ness

By Tim Binnall

A pair of seasoned canoeists claim that a recent trip across Loch Ness saw their boats rocked by an encounter with something sizeable in the water. The puzzling incident reportedly occurred earlier this month as Geoff Potts and his son Chris were out on the famed Scottish site. As the duo crossed Loch Ness, they were surprised by a strange disturbance that left the pair scratching their heads. "Something bumped my canoe hard from below," Geoff recalled, "and when I mentioned it to Chris, he said he hit something with his paddle which nearly took it out of his hand."

Having guided dozens of canoe trips at Loch Ness, Geoff observed that the eerie event was unlike anything he has ever experienced out on the water. "It was confusing to get a thud which sounded dull," he mused, "I have hit logs before, but this was not like hitting wood at all." Noting that the infamously dark water of Loch Ness left him unable to see what their respective canoes had struck, Geoff indicated that "I just felt a big thump against the bottom of my boat." Their account comes on the heels of a similar report that made headlines last week wherein adventurer Duncan Roberts claimed to have been struck in the chest by a mysterious denizen of the deep while he was swimming across Loch Ness.
