The rebranding of a community college pairing in Washington State saw the schools swap their mascot from Bigfoot to Sasquatch following some rather odd market research feedback. The curious cryptid change is part of an expansive transformation of sisters schools Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College into the more cohesive identity of simply 'Spokane Colleges.' Beyond the new name, the rebrand includes a fresh logo and school mascot. To that end, they announced that the schools would no longer be represented by beloved Pacific Northwest denizen Bigfoot. Cryptid fans should have no fear, however, as they will now be known as the Sasquatch instead.
As for why they made the seemingly superficial change, Spokane Colleges indicated the extensive market research "found the use of the foot as a logo to be unappealing." With that strangely specific feedback in mind, Spokane Colleges jettisoned its previously iconic Bigfoot print (seen on the left above) in favor of a "fierce" Sasquatch face (featured on the right). Why they needed to change from one cryptid to another is uncertain, since both beasts are largely the same creature. That said, the swap does give the schools an array of fresh merchandising opportunities while also allowing them to save money by not having to create a whole new mascot costume.
