The mysterious KIC 8462852 continues to confound astronomers after a new study has ruled out comets as the source for the star's strange dimming.
KIC 8462852 made headlines back in October after astronomers suggested that the dimming of the star could be due to an 'alien megastructure.'
Hopes for ETs were dashed shortly thereafter when researchers posited that comets were the cause of the anomalous observations.
However a new study has nixed comets as the source of the dimming, since an examination of past observations of KIC 8462852 revealed that it has been slowly losing light for over a century!
The new findings have astronomers baffled as to the source of the star's dimming and give new life to the vaunted 'alien megastructure' theory.
