Authorities in Ohio are on the hunt for a creepy clown who inexplicably broke into a church in order to steal their Halloween candy. The weird incident reportedly occurred last Tuesday evening at the Marne United Methodist Church in the community of Newark. According to police, a mysterious individual clad in a clown mask managed to make his way into the building and then immediately made a beeline for a bowl of candy that was sitting in the hands of a scarecrow. The proverbial Grinch of the spooky season then proceeded to dump all of the sweet treats into a bag before yanking an alarm system off a wall and then exiting the church.
It is uncertain if the alarm, which alerted police to the ne'er-do-well's presence in the church, caused the clown to cut his caper short or if he had simply burst into the church specifically to steal the candy. As one might imagine, cops are keen to catch culprit and are calling on the public to contact them with any leads as to the harlequin's identity. While the stolen candy amounted to a mere $30, the individual behind the bizarre heist could face serious consequences for his actions as he actually committed a felony by breaking into the church and conviction for such a crime carries a 6 to 12 month prison sentence, which is a rather long time to spend in jail for stealing what will be given away for free at homes across America in just a few days.
