NASA's Curiosity Mars rover recently stumbled upon a strangely shaped rock that the space agency likened to a tiny book sitting on surface of the Red Planet. A photograph of the peculiar formation was showcased on the exploratory vehicle's Twitter account last week with the amusing caption "just doing some light reading." Proving once again that NASA is on par with anomaly hunters when it comes to spotting oddities in their images, the 'rover' went on to write that "my team thinks this uniquely-shaped pebble resembles an open book with pages blowing in the wind."
On their website, the space agency expounded on the formation, explaining that it was photographed back on April 15th by way of the rover's "Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) on the end of its robotic arm." Although the rock does somewhat resemble a book, NASA noted that it actually only measures "about an inch across." The tiny size of the formation should put to rest speculation that it is some kind of ancient Martian tome, unless the long lost inhabitants of the Red Planet were extraordinarily small.
