There could Earth-like planets orbiting a star in our nearest solar system—Alpha Centauri. Scientists used Hubble data to find a dip in the light from a recently discovered planet, Alpha Centauri B, caused when it passes in front of the star. Evidence also points to the existence of another planet, Alpha Centauri Bb. It is thought the two planets are too close to their star to support life, however astronomers think they could be part of a planetary system which includes water-covered worlds like our own with conditions conducive for life.
