A Canadian community has a rather odd new claim to fame in the form of an enormous statue celebrating the iconic orange dust that adorns the snack food Cheetos. The massive monument reportedly stands a staggering 17 feet tall and depicts a hand holding one of the cheesy treats. The piece was unveiled this week in the hamlet of Cheadle, Alberta, which 'earned' the statue because the community's name resembles the term 'cheetle,' which is actually the name given to the snack food's ubiquitous orange dust that is all too familiar to anyone who has eaten a bag of Cheetos and subsequently found their fingertips covered in the substance.
In keeping with the cheetle homage, the fingertips of the new statue are similarly coated in orange 'dust' as it hoists a Cheeto high into the sky. In response to the piece's unveiling, local official James Gosteli declared that "Cheadle is proud to be home to the Cheetle Hand Statue" and asked "where else could the Cheetos brand honor the iconic Cheetle, if not here?" While it is uncertain what residents of the hamlet think of the massive statue just yet, those who may have misgivings about the weird monument are in luck as it is only going to reside in the community for the next month and is set to be removed in early November for reasons unexplained and with a destination unknown.
