Enormous Stonehenge Replica to be Constructed Using Lego Bricks

By Tim Binnall

Stonehenge will soon be joined by an unlikely companion in the form of an enormous replica of the mysterious megalithic monument to be constructed entirely out of Lego bricks. The ambitious endeavor was announced today by English Heritage, the organization which oversees the iconic site. Beginning this coming Saturday and unfolding over the course of the next week, Lego masters Kevin Hall and Emily Corl will build the massive model next to the ancient monument in Wiltshire. Set to measure a staggering 15 feet tall with a weight of approximately one ton, the giant replica will require over 400,000 Lego bricks to complete.

As such, English Heritage is calling upon children across the country to come to the site and help with building the mighty model. In discussing the endeavor, English Heritage's Scott Ashman noted the decision to use Lego for the project is particularly apt as "the bricks fit together in much the same way as the stones at Stonehenge" with protrusions and indentations that lock into place. It is uncertain if the replica will be a permanent fixture at the Wiltshire site or if it is merely temporary, though if the latter scenario is the case, we do not envy whoever will have to deconstruct the mighty Lego monument.
