A weird mystery has gripped a Canadian province in the form of bizarre blobs that have been washing ashore on beaches for the last several weeks and, so far, experts are at a loss to explain the puzzling debris. The curious case reportedly first came to light early in early September when a Newfoundland resident posted a photo (seen below) of one of the slimy-looking oddities on a local Facebook group. His post asking if anyone could identify the blob led to several responses from people who had also stumbled upon the mysterious objects along the southeast coast of the province.
Remarkably, the question of what the debris could be stumped longtime residents of the province who have encountered all manner of strange objects that washed ashore. "I’ve lived here for 67 years and I’ve never seen anything like this, never," marveled Dave McGrath, noting that he found "hundreds" of the blobs along the beach in the coastal community of Patrick’s Cove. He went on to indicate that a conversation with Canadian Coast Guard officials looking into the case revealed that they had found "this stuff" along a staggering 28 miles of the province's coastline.
To date, the matter has proven to be maddeningly mysterious for scientists as all of the various theories for the nature of the blobs, such as whale vomit or discharged biofuel, have fallen by the wayside. With residents understandably irritated by their beaches being covered with the unsettling debris, Canadian authorities have pledged to get to the bottom of the situation and assuage any fears that the objects could be toxic.
