Face of a 400-Year-Old 'Vampire' Woman Resurrected Through Modern Reconstruction

In 2022, archaeologists from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland unearthed the remains of a young woman in Pien, northern Poland, who had been buried with precautions to prevent her from rising from the dead, including a shackle on her foot and an iron sickle across her neck. Likely only 20 years old when she died, she reportedly suffered from a condition causing mental health issues, which may have fueled beliefs that she was a vampire. Scientists have reconstructed her face using modern forensic techniques, bringing her 'back to life' after 400 years. Known locally as "Zosia," she is thought to have come from a relatively wealthy family but likely led a difficult life.
