A husband and wife walking near a beach in New Zealand were forced to ponder the shape of our planet thanks to a clever sign from a Flat Earth enthusiast.
Dr. Stephen Voss was somewhat taken aback when he spotted the homemade message exhorting people to "do research" and "wake up" when it comes to the 'true' nature of Earth's shape.
The weird call to action also included a pair of illustrations of a boat on both a flat and curved ocean as well as a suggestion that readers visit a specific YouTube video detailing the controversial conspiracy theory.
Although Voss was well aware of the Flat Earth theory which has made headlines in recent years, his wife had never heard of the concept, making her the ideal target audience for the anonymous sign maker.
Unfortunately for them, it appears unlikely that Voss' wife will become an advocate for the theory as her reaction was more of amusement and bewilderment that people believe the 'out of this world' idea that the Earth is really flat.
Whether the signage can convince other beachgoers to look into the Flat Earth theory remains to be seen, although one wonders how long the simple piece of paper on a stick can last after being exposed to the elements.
To that end, while the sign is not quite as impactful as the billboards bought by Flat Earth fans in America, it's also not as destructive and detestable as the graffiti which sprung up in Scotland.
And, the presence of the sign in the relatively faraway country of New Zealand is also an indication that advocates for the embattled idea will literally go to the ends of the, ostensibly flat, Earth to spread their message.
