A game camera set up to spot a mountain lion suspected of roaming around a town in Wyoming wound up snapping photos of a ghoulish figure that left residents scratching their heads before the identity of the mysterious stranger was ultimately revealed. According to a local media report, the curious case came to light earlier this month when maintenance workers in the community of Evansville spotted sizeable big cat prints near a bridge. The town's police department subsequently placed a game camera in the area in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the animal and, in turn, shared pictures from the device on social media with the message "here are some photos of what is running in the wilds of Evansville along the river."
The seemingly innocuous Facebook post featuring various critters like turkeys and skunks caused residents to do a double take when they noticed that, included among the images, were three pictures featuring an unnerving figure with a monstrous face and skeletal hands. Their bewilderment was compounded by the fact that the police department made no mention of the mysterious stranger in the images, leaving many to conclude that it was some kind of prank. That speculation was later confirmed when Evansville chief of police, Mike Thompson, stepped forward to take credit for the clever prank, which he said was inspired by the town's annual Halloween festivities.
