A historic farm once heralded as one of the most-haunted sites in Western Australia is being rebranded by new owners after they learned that tourists were afraid to visit the location.
Oakabella Homestead dates back to 1851 and provides visitors with a remarkable glimpse of how the early settlers of the Australian outback lived.
The site also is also said to be the home of several spirits believed to be former residents of the property who died under tragic and gruesome circumstances.
While one might think that the property's purported ghosts would be a boon for business, it's new owners lament that the tales of apparition encounters have had the opposite effect.
Specifically, they say, the homestead's haunted reputation has proven to be particularly unnerving to Chinese tourists who make up a considerable portion of the visitors to the region.
And so, in response to these concerns, the new owners have decided to pivot their portrayal of the property from a place where one may encounter ghosts to a more history-based experience.
With high tea events and star gazing gatherings set to replace ghost tours, the Oakabella Homestead hopes that skittish visitors will overlook the spirits that may be in their midst.
