Haunted House Draws Thai Lottery Hopefuls

By Tim Binnall

A group of aspiring lottery winners in Thailand held something of a seance at a purportedly haunted house in the hopes that its resident spirit could provide insight into what numbers they should play. The odd supernatural strategy reportedly came about after Thai media outlets covered claims of paranormal activity in an abandoned residence in the town of Ban Bueng. The ghost in question is said to be that of the previous owner who died two years ago, yet has allegedly been seen roaming around the now-deserted home in spirit form ever since. After witnesses and the man's family recounted these tales to Thai media, someone came up with the audacious idea to try and contact the apparition ahead of the next drawing of the country's nationwide lottery.

With dreams of riches by way of a helping hand from beyond, a small group of residents and the man's relatives came together to hold a ceremony wherein they attempted to enlist the man's spirit concerning what the next winning lottery numbers would be. Eerily, during the gathering, the now-departed homeowner's identification card seemingly manifested out of thin air and landed in the center of the group of people performing the ritual. Shortly thereafter, a mysterious musty smell suddenly filled the home, however it dissipated just as quickly after the gathering 'gave' some white wine to the perceived spirit.

The curious ceremony culminated with a weird moment when an incense stick tipped over in a manner wherein it pointed to the dead man's bedroom. When the group righted the fragrant object and asked if the spirit wished to speak to them, several of the sticks fell in a similar fashion, convincing the participants that the apparition was, indeed, in the room with them. Alas, the puzzling events appear to have been the extent of the spirit's suspected communication with the gathering. Be that as it may, the would-be lottery winners believe that the ghost may have provided them with a clue in the form of the number 360, which was somehow derived from the incident with the incense sticks.
