The dogmen phenomenon, sleep paralysis, and the potential for an asteroid to strike the Earth were among the fascinating realms explored this past week on Coast to Coast AM. And, here at the C2C website, we told you about a massive Buddha statue discovered in China, an incredibly rare piece of footage showing a juvenile Tasmanian Tiger, and an incredibly strange-looking dinosaur. Check out our round-up of highlights from the past week ... In Coast You Missed It.
Often cited by scientists as a likely explanation for seemingly paranormal events that occur while one is in bed, the condition known as sleep paralysis is undeniably unnerving for those who unknowingly experience it. On Wednesday night's program, researcher Ryan Hurd talked about these moments when a person becomes stuck in a state between asleep and awake wherein they may feel physical pressure on their body, an inability to move, and even visions of entities lingering near their bed. He noted that students and nurses often report experiencing the phenomenon due to their erratic sleep schedules. As for how one breaks free from sleep paralysis, Hurd advised wiggling a finger or toe as well as controlling your breathing.
Once again the breathtaking weirdness of Mother Nature was on display this week when paleontologists announced the discovery of a truly bizarre dinosaur which sported a pair of pole-like appendages that stuck out of its shoulders. Comprised of the protein keratin, which is what fingernails and hair is made of, the odd ribbons are believed to have either functioned as a means of warding off predators or attracting a mate in a fashion similar to the plumage of a peacock. Upon the discovery of the curious dinosaur's strange appearance, researchers marveled that they have never seen anything quite like it in either the fossil record nor in contemporary wildlife.
One of the more puzzling and unsettling mysteries to emerge in recent years is that of the dogman phenomenon and, on Sunday night's program, Joedy Cook detailed his research into these reports of dog-headed humans which seem to defy classification. Although tales of such bipedal canine cryptids can be found throughout the historical record, a spate of contemporary sightings has led to an increase in awareness of the creature. During his appearance, Cook shared a number of chilling reports from witnesses who encountered and were terrified by these werewolf like entities, which he postulated could be interdimensional in nature.
Although the last thylacine in captivity perished nearly a century ago, the world was afforded a brief glimpse of the creature this past week when the only known film of the animal as a cub was unearthed after being lost in the Australian archives for decades. The tantalizingly short piece of footage was captured by the late Reverend Harold Doyle back in 1930 when he visited the Hobart Zoo where the lone remaining Tasmanian Tiger, dubbed Benjamin, resided. Amazingly, the discovery of the film rewrites the legendary creature's story as it had been previously thought that the thylacine was captured when it was older, but it now appears that the unfortunate animal spent its entire life at the facility.
Could the lockdowns attributed to the coronavirus pandemic actually be a test by the 'powers that be' to see how people would react to an even more perilous event such as an asteroid strike or massive natural disaster? This intriguing question was explored by activist and filmmaker Shepard Ambellas on Monday night's program as he argued that the government is downplaying the risk of an asteroid collision and that such an event is more likely than one might imagine. He also claimed that a deal has been brokered between the United States and other countries to house Americans who become displaced should the Yellowstone caldera erupt. Ultimately, Ambellas asserted that the lockdowns will likely continue through 2024 due to some looming threat facing the planet.
By far the most jaw-dropping story of the week came by way of China where workers clearing vegetation and trash from a cliff beneath two residential buildings discovered a massive headless statue of Buddha that had been carved into the rock face. The incredible juxtaposition of the seemingly ancient piece of artwork sitting within the apartment complex captured the imagination of Chinese social media and led to speculation that perhaps the sculpture was thousands of years old. However, a subsequent investigation found that it was less than a century old and, in a testament to the power of the passage of time, was simply forgotten about for decades until this past week.
