In Coast You Missed It 2/18/22

Reptilian humanoids, wrongful convictions, and classic conspiracy theories were among the fascinating realms explored this past week on Coast to Coast AM. And, here at the C2C website, we told you about a massive flock of birds that mysteriously plunged from the sky in Mexico, a doghouse that could fetch big bucks at auction thanks to its unique backstory, and a baby ghost shark found near New Zealand. Check out our round-up of highlights from the past week ... In Coast You Missed It.

In the pantheon of paranormal creatures and entities, few are as mysterious and menacing as the beings dubbed 'reptilians.' On Wednesday night's program, John Rhodes detailed his exhaustive research into these unnerving humanoids. Although often thought to be extraterrestrial in nature, he argued that the beings that he calls 'Reptoids' may actually reside in a subterranean world and that they could be indigenous to Earth. During his appearance, Rhodes also discussed underground military bases and how they could be connected, both literally and figuratively, to the presence of reptilians beneath our feet.

A pair of odd items up for auction made news this past week, beginning with an aviator helmet that was once worn by Amelia Earhart. The leather cap was handed down to Anthony Twiggs by his mother, who had something of an apocryphal tale surrounding how she got it back in 1929. After years trying to prove that the story was true, her son was finally able to do so via photographic forensics and it is now up for sale with an estimated value of at least $80,000. Meanwhile a doghouse that was struck by a meteorite falling from the sky over Costa Rica is also being sold at auction and experts expect that the one-of-a-kind piece will sell somewhere between $200,000 and $300,000 later this month.

Classic conspiracies took center stage on Monday night's program as author and TV personality Mike Bara revisited infamous theories surrounding the Flat Earth and the moon landing as well as the still-perplexing JFK assassination. He argued that we did, in fact, go to the moon and posited that the 'real conspiracy' centered around secret alien insights that were discovered there. Bara theorized that those lunar artifacts ultimately led to Kennedy being killed because he wanted to tell the Russians about the materials. Dismissing the Flat Earth theory as easily refutable, he did give some credence to the concept of a Hollow Earth in light of the vast number of subterranean caverns that have already been discovered.

Curious aquatic creatures wound up in the spotlight this past week via two peculiar stories. First, off the coast of New Zealand, researchers discovered an incredible rare baby ghost shark that had just hatched days earlier. The wondrous creature, which sports a nearly translucent body, was inadvertently caught during a trawling operation aimed at surveying the local fish population and, scientists say, could provide a wealth of new insight into the elusive ghost shark, which is rarely seen in the wild, much less at such a young age. Later in the week, a paddle board instructor in Taiwan captured some fantastic footage of a mysterious 'lake monster' that went viral in China and was later determined to have likely been a speckled longfin eel.

Some of the more maddening and heartbreaking cases in the criminal justice system are instances in which an innocent person winds up in prison for a crime they didn't commit. On Saturday night's program, defense attorney David S. Rudolf discussed his work helping the wrongfully convicted. He pointed to tunnel vision and confirmation bias as blind spots which can often lead investigators to suspect the wrong person and, in turn, upend their world. Proving on proverbial paper that someone is innocent, however, is only part of the challenge in overturning these convictions, Rudolf explained, as obtaining someone's freedom also involves an arduous court fight often against prosecutors who refuse to concede that they got the wrong person.

One of the more jaw-dropping videos we've seen in quite some time appeared in the news this week by way of Mexico, where a security camera filmed a massive flock of birds plummeting from the sky onto a city street. The incredible scene, which unfolded in the community of Chihuahua earlier this month, resembled something out of a horror movie as an initially tranquil road is suddenly deluged by an enormous black cloud that drops down from the sky. It is only after the proverbial dust settles that it becomes apparent that a flock of birds had plunged to the ground. As for what could have caused the eerie incident, experts theorize that the creatures were trying to evade a predator when their path took a disastrous turn.
