Indiana Cops Squash Online Rumors of Armed Creepy Clowns Roaming Around City

By Tim Binnall

In response to an unsettling image making the rounds online, an Indiana police department was forced to issue a statement reassuring residents that their city was not being overrun by weapon-wielding creepy clowns. The strange announcement came on Tuesday morning by way of the Facebook page of the Terre Haute Police Department. The post indicated that authorities had become "aware of an image circulating on social media featuring clowns and guns in our community."

The department went on to debunk the unnerving photo by stressing that the "image has been clearly edited, with text applied to it, and all visuals within the image are readily found online." In a testament to the power of misinformation in this digital age, the cops noted that the setting of the strange picture is not even a location within Terre Haute. Ultimately, the department called upon the public to refrain from sharing the creepy clown pictures online, since doing so "only helps those who aim to instill fear" in the city's residents.
