While many small towns have peculiar claims to fame, the village of Shingo in Japan may have the most Biblical boast as it is the alleged final resting place of Jesus Christ, whom, local legend has it, settled there after escaping crucifixion in Jerusalem. The tale is so popular that it has spawned a 'Legend of Christ' museum in the town which draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. An in-depth examination of the 'Jesus in Japan' lore can be found at Smithsonian Magazine.
