A new study on deaths caused by selfies revealed that an astounding sixty percent of the victims come from India.
The research project, posted online with the delightful title of 'Me, Myself, and My Killfie,' was conducted by Carnegie Mellon University and India's Indraprastha Institute of Information.
Looking over the last two years of available data, researchers found 127 instances of 'death by selfie' around the world and, of those, an incredible 76 of them took place in India.
Americans wondering where we fared in the tally can breath easy as the United States only accounted for a mere 8 'killfies.'
As to how someone can die from a selfie, the study found a surprising number of ways that people have perished beyond the predominant 'falling off a high structure.'
Accidentally killing themselves with a weapon, being attacked by an animal, and getting electrocuted were all ways in which some unfortunate soul passed away while attempting a selfie.
And, in what should be no surprise, researchers determined that men under the age of 24 were the most likely to die due to a selfie-inflicted mishap.
Why exactly India far surpassed every other country in selfie deaths goes unanswered by the researchers although the study itself as well as a number of new regulations in the country suggest that officials are well aware of the odd trend.
Although the relatively low number of deaths worldwide should be somewhat reassuring, the overall phenomenon of selfie deaths is a testament to the strange ability of humans to always find new ways to accidentally kill themselves.
