Massive Fireball Causes Alarm Across Multiple States

A large meteor fireball was seen and heard across 13 states in the U.S., with over 200 reports from areas including Ohio, the Carolinas, and Tennessee. The fireball, which appeared at 9:45 pm, disintegrated 30 miles above Exie, Kentucky, releasing the energy equivalent to 10 tons of TNT, causing a pressure wave that was audible to some people. The meteor, which was 20 inches in diameter and weighed 400 pounds, traveled at 51,000 mph. It is unclear if any meteorite fragments reached Earth, though some may have landed near the Altapass in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Eyewitnesses described the event as a rare and spectacular sight.
