Authorities on Long Island are trying to get to the bottom of a weird mystery after the remains of a fourteen-foot-long python was discovered on the side of a road. According to a statement from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the peculiar case occurred last month in the town of Medford when a resident reported seeing a sizeable snake next to a street. When conservation officers arrived on the scene, they first found the creature curled up in what one imagines was a fairly large ball. Upon closer inspection, they determined that it was a reticulated python that, fortunately, posed no danger to the public as it was dead.
The officers subsequently stretched the creature out and found that it measured a whopping fourteen feet in length. A jaw-dropping picture of the perished python captures the size of the snake as it is nearly as long as their truck. In detailing the account online, the department noted that the animal is not native to Long Island and, in fact, they are illegal to own in New York unless one possesses a Dangerous Animal License. As such, authorities are now searching for the owner of the snake, though hopefully they do not punish the person too harshly, considering that the individual is likely mourning the loss of their admittedly outlawed pet.
