A community in Pennsylvania was recently rocked by a mysterious boom that rattled residents and left authorities searching for its source. According to a local media report, the puzzling event occurred this past Friday morning in Upper Macungie Township. People getting ready for the day suddenly found their breakfasts and showers interrupted by a powerful sound that reverberated through their homes. Resident Brian Kresge likened the event to an earthquake, while David Cooke recalled feeling "a loud boom and shake." As one might imagine, the Upper Macungie Township police department were inundated with calls from concerned residents wondering what had just happened.
Authorities quickly set about looking for the source of the "loud, ground-shaking 'thud'" that put residents on edge, but their investigation has so proven futile. To that end, a search of the neighborhood where the boom seemingly originated yielded to sign of what could have caused it and both the local power company UGI as well as the United States Geological Survey said that they could not account for the curious incident. While authorities will no doubt continue to investigate the odd case, for now, residents are left to speculate as to what could have caused the boom while hoping that it was an isolated incident.
