A historical society in Maryland is calling on the public for help in identifying a curious contraption that has left them scratching their heads. According to a local media report, the puzzling device was donated to the Dorchester County Historical Society in the community of Cambridge sometime in the 1990s. Kept in storage ever since, the mystery machine was recently dusted off by the group, which says that they have no idea what its purpose was. Believed to be nearly a century old, though sporting a more recently installed motor, the device features a pair of spinning pins, one of which is lined with bolts, atop a ceramic table.
The current theory being put forward by the historical society is that the contraption was a clever solution to the arduous process of making Maryland beaten biscuits, which traditionally required tenderizing the dough with an axe. Should that be the case, it would seem that the device was not a huge success since it was not easily identifiable to the group. Stumped by the strange mystery, the historical society posted several photos of the machine on social media in the hopes that someone online might be able to provide a definitive answer as to the nature of the device.
