Authorities in Oregon are investigating a case of brazen Bigfoot banditry wherein a ne'er-do-well stole a giant Sasquatch mascot head from the World Athletics Championships earlier this week. Serving as a representative of the event's host city Eugene, the character of Legend the Bigfoot has become something of a star at the biennial sports competition by way of his amusing antics. However organizers of the gathering were reportedly not in the mood for laughter on Monday night when it was discovered that some miscreant had made off with the mascots rather sizeable yellow head and, shortly thereafter, photos appearing to show people wearing the pilfered piece popped up on social media.
Despite the colorful nature of the crime, the event's organizers have been fairly tight-lipped about the affair telling the media that "we can confirm that an accredited photographer was removed from Hayward Field in connection to the investigation of a theft at the venue. This is now a police matter." To that end, while it was initially suspected that the individual mentioned in the statement may have had a hand in the odd caper, authorities have since indicated that they are no longer a person of interest. As such, it would appear that the Bigfoot bandit remains at large with the whereabouts of the mascot head still a mystery. Fortunately, the incident has left Legend no worse for wear as the 'creature' took to the field on Tuesday wearing a backup noggin.
