'Phantom Knocker' Causes Stir in Malaysia

Residents of multiple villages in Malaysia are on edge following a series of incidents wherein people have heard a loud and persistent knocking on their door and windows late at night, but the source of the sound has managed to evade authorities investigating the strange phenomenon. According to a local media report, the weirdness began unfolding in various communities throughout the country late last year and seemingly reached a fever pitch this past weekend when a staggering 25 different homes throughout the state of Melacca were visited by the proverbial phantom knocker during the hours of midnight and two in the morning.

One individual who experienced the puzzling phenomenon was certain that it was not simply produced by the wind and recalled how "the knocking lasted several minutes," but when it stopped and she opened her door, there was no one outside or in the general area of her home. In response to growing concerns over the peculiar events, police were dispatched to the villages to investigate the matter, but their presence seemingly only managed to silence the sound, since they reported that "there was no knocking as claimed."

Meanwhile, in a testament to how such events can give rise to all manner of bizarre rumors, a local reporter investigating the phenomenon was shown a picture of an eerie alien-like figure that a young man claimed to have photographed while trying to catch the 'phantom knocker.' Authorities were quick to dismiss the image as a hoax meant to stir up even more unrest in the unnerved communities. Should the knocking merely be a prank that has caught fire throughout Malaysia, those behind the late-night hijinks would probably be wise to stop now since irritated villagers have begun to form posses in the hopes of getting their hands on the culprit.
