"Ever wonder what 1 million mosquitoes looks like?" posed the Lee County Mosquito Control District (LCMCD) in Florida last week as they posted images on Twitter. After being displayed in a pile on a table by LCMCD biologists, the staggering number of expired critters neatly filled a single orange Home Depot tub.
The insects had been trapped and collected from a section of Sanibel Island off the west coast of Florida during the summer of 2021, as part of a testing program with the US Dept. of Agriculture, who are exploring the idea of trapping as a method of mosquito abatement. More here.
