An anthropologist perusing the Halloween section of a thrift shop in Florida made a rather macabre discovery when he spotted a human skull for sale at the store and subsequently determined that it was actually real. According to a social media post from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the strange case occurred this past Saturday when the unnamed expert visited the establishment in the community of North Fort Myers. Possibly looking for items that may have been discounted in the days after Halloween, the anthropologist's attention was drawn to what one imagines initially appeared to be a very realistic human skull. Upon closer inspection, the scientist quickly found that the specimen was not a well-crafted prop and, instead, had come from a real person.
The anthropologist dutifully reported the chilling find to police and detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they also concluded that the skull had a human origin. When questioned about how they had come into possession of the odd object, the thrift store owner indicated that it was among a variety of items purchased at a storage unit auction years ago and, lacking the scientist's professional training, they never realized that it was genuine. The skull had since been turned over to a local medical examiner in the hopes of shedding further light on its mysterious background, though the sheriff's office stressed that "this case is not suspicious in nature."
