An odd Freedom of Information request submitted to a British police department revealed that they do not utilize psychics to help them solve crimes. According to a local media report, the Devon and Cornwall Police received the peculiar inquiry from a resident who was curious about their possible use of clairvoyants over the three years. A legally required and rather exhaustive check of their records found that, over the time period, there were no instances wherein they "actively engaged with a psychic" in the course of a criminal investigation.
Intriguingly, the records search did find three occasions in which self-proclaimed clairvoyants reached out to the department with an offer of assistance. Alas, the response to the information request did not include any specifics surrounding those entreaties. A similar search, which was posed to all British police departments in 2006, found only one case wherein a psychic was enlisted by law enforcement. The inquiry comes on the heels of another paranormal-themed information request posed to the agency that oversees London's transportation system in which they were asked about reported ghost sightings. That search unearthed one such curious account of a teenager who claimed to have spotted spirits at a subway station.
