Ring Offers $100,000 for Best Ghost Video

Home security company Ring is once again offering a big bounty for footage of paranormal activity by way of a new contest calling on customers to share their best ghost video for the chance to win a whopping $100,000 grand prize. The clever campaign, dubbed the Great Ghost Search, challenges participants to submit their most compelling spooky scenes as captured by the company's various devices. In a press release announcing the contest, the company explained that the videos do not necessarily have to contain genuine paranormal activity. "Whether you catch a floating orb, an inexplicable shadow," Ring declared, "or dress up as a friendly ghost, all "supernatural" sightings are welcome."

Submitted videos will be parsed by a panel of judges that include paranormal researcher Katrina Weidman and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard. According to the official rules of the contest, entries will be scored according to four specific criteria: clarity of the spirit seen in the footage, uniqueness of the scene, "entertainment value," and the manner in which the otherworldly visitor engages with the Ring device that recorded it. Something of a sequel to the company's Million Dollar Search for Extraterrestrials held last autumn, the contest officially launched on Tuesday and will run until either November 1st, though could end before that should the company reach their cutoff of 5,000 entries.
