Residents of a town in France are on edge due to a twisted miscreant who is believed to be responsible for killing over 100 pet rabbits. The bizarre series of crimes reportedly started back in March in the small community of Minihy-Treguier and have increased in frequency to the point that local officials are now sounding the alarm about the mysterious slayer. "The village is gripped by fear," lamented the mayor.
According to authorities, the sinister individual is believed to have struck at least 15 times in the last few months. Brazenly breaking into people's backyards where they house their pet rabbits, the monstrous murderer kills the unfortunate creatures in grisly fashion and leaves their bodies behind for their heartbroken owners to find. Perhaps the most puzzling aspect of the slayings is that the ne'er-do-well appears to have an oddly specific predilection, targeting only rabbits and ignoring other animals living alongside the bunnies.
The truly strange slayings have drawn comparisons to England's Croydon Cat Killer case, which was recently declared closed when authorities determined that they were the work of foxes. However, in this instance, it seems that the rabbit killer is, indeed, a disturbed human as one resident actually caught sight of the individual in the midst of one of his rampages. Although he could not be identified, the witness says that the man wore a long coat and black hat, which is rather befitting given his villainous deeds.
As one can imagine, investigators are baffled as to who could be behind the killings and why they are focused only on rabbits. Although the mayor expressed skepticism that the person could be a resident of the town, he conceded that their knowledge of which homes have the animals in their backyards indicates that it is someone familiar with the area. For now, though, they're simply hoping that the killings will come to an end before any other animals are harmed or, more worryingly, the killer's bloodlust can no longer be satiated by bunnies and he moves on to human prey.
