A series of suspected Sasquatch sightings in a Virginia community prompted a local police department to issue a statement wherein they revealed that the 'creature' was merely a prankster in a costume. According to a local media report, the odd flap occurred late last month when several people in the town of Wintergreen either spotted what appeared to be Bigfoot in the wild or inadvertently captured photos of the elusive cryptid by way of their doorbell cameras. It would seem that the sightings were so prevalent that word of the weird series of events eventually reached the town's police department, which was forced to take to social media and clear up the matter.
In a post on Facebook, the Wintergreen Police Department explained that the sightings were, in fact, fake and that the individual beneath the Bigfoot costume was "just trying to have a little fun and create a little lighthearted conversation." Extrapolating on the situation to a local TV station, Chief Dennis Russell mused that "I think he just wanted to, maybe elevate people's happiness during the holiday season." Noting that the prankster's antics were not illegal, he indicated that while the department did not tell him to stop running around the community dressed as Sasquatch, the faux Bigfoot has likely decided to hang up the costume for now before things take a troubling turn should someone spot him and think they have a chance to take down the famed cryptid at last.
