Space Shuttle Endeavour Goes Vertical

The California Science Center is preparing to start a six-month-long effort to stack the components of Space Shuttle Endeavour into its upright launching configuration. The long-retired Shuttle will appear ready to blast off into space in a new 20-story-tall display at the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. Creating the display, which will include the Endeavour orbitor, the external tank, and two solid rocket boosters, poses challenges for the Science Center as this will be the first time such a task has been attempted outside of a NASA facility. Endeavour's final mission ended on June 1, 2011, after a 16-day mission to the International Space Station.
