Anomaly hunters scouring NASA images for strange and unusual objects on Mars spotted what appears to be a rock which sports a rather spooky-looking 'face.' The photo featuring the weird find was originally captured by the Curiosity rover back in 2014, though the odd formation seemingly went unnoticed until this past weekend when it was posted on Reddit by a user who pointed out the eerie visage and wondered if it was "a statue of some sort." To that end, the peculiar formation does bear an uncanny resemblance to a face that is half cast in shadow.
Unsurprisingly, observers offered an array of interpretations for the curious rock sitting on the surface of the Red Planet with some suggesting that it was a remnant from a lost Martian civilization. Skeptical individuals, however, begged to differ and posited that the 'face' was almost certainly a trick of light and shadow giving rise to the phenomenon of pareidolia. Alas, it's likely that we may never truly know the nature of the bewildering anomaly. To that end, what do you think the Curiosity photographed on Mars?
