A mysterious metal object shaped like a starfish has baffled viewers. Found at low tide on the shoreline of East Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island, the 4-feet wide object is embedded in the sand, and is too heavy to move.
There is speculation that it could be a mount for an instrument used to monitor ocean currents, though no one knows how it could have ended up in this location. Discussion on Twitter and elsewhere has yielded some amusing theories, including an "extraterrestrial fidget spinner."
