An odd study looking at web searches for ghost-related terms has determined the states that seem to have the most and least interest in the spooky side of the paranormal. The odd research was reportedly conducted by the online gambling site JeffBet. The study took the total number of monthly searches for paranormal terms such as 'ghost hunting' and 'spirit box' for each state and then compared that data to their population size to create an average for each location.
When all of the numbers were ultimately crunched, the state of West Virginia came out on top with "403 searches per 100,000 people each month." The home of Mothman and the Flatwoods Monster was followed by Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Nevada in the top five. At the very bottom of the list was Mississippi with a mere "161 monthly searches per 100,000 people." Just above the state in the bottom five were New Jersey, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Idaho.
