Pop star Taylor Swift made an otherworldly fashion statement at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) with her UFO-themed outfits. Swift, who won seven awards at the VMAs, was seen wearing a beaded minidress with a UFO design during the ceremony. Later, she was photographed heading to an afterparty at Electric Lady Studios in New York City wearing a UFO-printed tapestry jacket and a coordinating mini skirt and corset with the same flying saucer print, according to People.com.
The UFO theme is perhaps a reference to Swift's song "Down Bad" from her most recent album, "The Tortured Poets Department." The composition uses alien abduction as a metaphor for being "love bombed" in a relationship. Swift's fans, known as Swifties, were quick to point out the parallel with the production design for "Down Bad" on her Eras Tour, where a UFO with a beaming spotlight pursues her onstage.
The lyrics for "Down Bad" include: "Did you really beam me up / In a cloud of sparkling dust / Just to do experiments on?" ...Tell me I was the chosen one / Showed me that this world is bigger than us / Then sent me back where I came from."
