Authorities in Texas caused quite a bit of confusion last week after their Amber Alert system sent out multiple bizarre announcements asking residents to be on the lookout for the villainous doll Chucky from the Child's Play movie franchise. The Texas Alerts System reportedly issued the strange bulletin on three separate occasions this past Friday morning. Multiple media outlets as well as countless people who receive such announcements via their cell phone were understandably perplexed by the odd police search purportedly underway.
That's because the remarkably detailed alert indicated that a 28-year-old kidnapping suspect by the name of 'Chucky' was last seen clad in "blue denim overalls with a multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt" while wielding a "huge kitchen knife." Including a picture of the iconic horror villain, the bulletin also thoughtfully listed the character's race as simply 'doll,' though it did not make any mention of the toy being possessed by serial killer Charles Lee Ray as is the canonical case in the Child's Play films.
Be that as it may, it would appear that whoever produced the bulletin is a big fan of the horror movie franchise as it also listed information, including a picture, for the 'abducted child' and indicated that the unfortunate tot in question was 'Glen,' a character introduced in the fourth Child's Play film which only the most ardent followers of the series are likely to have seen. The mystery of why such a weird message was issued via the alert system was quickly solved when embarrassed officials in Texas explained the bulletin was "a result of a test malfunction" and apologized for any confusion it may have caused.
