German authorities were understandably unamused when a traffic camera snapped a photo of a driver speeding down a highway while wearing a Cookie Monster mask. The mischievous motorist was reportedly spotted on September 20th near the city of Dortmund. Sharing the picture of the misguided prankster on social media, the community's police department indicated that the driver was detected going around seven miles per hour over the speed limit, which is punishable by a fine of around $40. Theorizing that the 'monstrous motorist' may have purposely sped up so that their hijinks were memorialized by the traffic camera, annoyed authorities stressed that the stunt was no laughing matter.
To that end, they observed that speeding down the highway with a "limited field of view" put others on the road at considerable risk. As such, the police department chillingly called for the Krümelmonster, as the character is known in Germany, to meet them for "an unfiltered conversation about what it feels like to share a death message to a loved one. How it feels to provide first aid at the scene of an accident - in vain." Fortunately, it would seem that unlike when snatching cookies on Sesame Street, the faux Muppet did not get away scot-free as the traffic camera photo allowed authorities to identify and subsequently issue a fine to the owner of the vehicle.
