Unsettling Humanoid Robot Brings Us Closer To 'Terminator' Future

Polish startup Clone Robotics has unveiled Protoclone, a humanoid robot designed to closely mimic human anatomy with life-like synthetic muscles and translucent skin. Unlike traditional robots, Protoclone replicates human movement by emulating muscles, joints, and ligaments—it boasts over 200 degrees of freedom, more than 1,000 myofibers, and over 200 sensors. Currently powered by pneumatics with plans to switch to hydraulics, the robot's eerily realistic motion, despite its faceless design marked only by a black visor, evokes comparisons to the T-800 from "The Terminator" movies. While the prototype represents a significant step toward robots that more closely resemble humans, its long-term impact on the future of robotics remains to be determined.
