Unsettling Paranormal Activity Causes Cops in South Africa to Abandon Police Station

By Tim Binnall

A police department in South Africa has something of a paranormal problem on its hands as members of the force say that ghostly activity at the station is so unbearable that they have been forced to abandon the building. According to a local media report, the strange case began late last month in the community of Relela when local law enforcement officers began noticing eerie events unfolding in and around their headquarters at night. The activity reached a fever pitch this past weekend when cops at the station became so terrified by what they perceived to be aggressive ghosts that they actually fled the building and drove around the town in their patrol cars until dawn.

Recounting the incident to a local media outlet, one shaken officer declared that "what I have seen last night is despicable," while another lamented that "our cop shop is invaded by ghosts." The unnerved cops went on to explain that the station is perfectly serene during the daytime, bu on "cloudy or raining nights, the ghosts strike." These 'attacks,' they said, start with an inexplicable wind that blows through the building and shakes the nearby trees. As this is taking place, the "cries of unusual wild animals" can be heard accompanying the haunting breeze, followed by the lights begin flickering shortly thereafter.

These chilling 'visits' culminate, the cops report, with the sound of "loud footsteps," which they likened to those of an elephant, emanating from outside the station, but seemingly with no visible source. As for what the source of the commotion could be, barring some prosaic explanation, it is said that the building was built around several graves, though why the spirits might have suddenly been disturbed is a mystery. Also uncertain is when or if the officers in Relela agreed to return to the station as their desperate measure have only come to light this week and, one imagines, their superiors are probably not too thrilled to learn that they have been abandoning their post.
