Australian authorities are trying to get to the bottom of a strange mystery in the form of a rather sizeable cylindrical object that washed ashore over the weekend. The puzzling oddity was reportedly discovered on Saturday in the coastal community of Green Head when a couple noticed something unusual floating near the shore. The pair proceeded to pull the enormous object, which measures around 8 feet wide and ten feet long, onto the beach using their four-wheel drive vehicle and subsequently reported the weird find to local police. However, when they arrived on the scene, they were left scratching their heads as no one could identify the curious cylinder.
The Western Australia Police Force has since stationed officers to watch over the weird oddity and released a statement wherein they indicated that they are "actively engaged in a collaborative effort with various State and Federal agencies to determine the object’s origin and nature." While some people online have speculated that the cylinder could be a piece of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, this theory was dismissed by authorities, who observed that it does not appear to have come from a commercial plane. One possible point of origin for the object that is currently being explored by the Australian Space Agency is that it could be the remnants of a launch vehicle from a foreign nation.
