Video: Colorado Cop Commandeers Kid's Bike to Chase Down Suspected Thief

By Tim Binnall

A Colorado cop is being commended for his commitment to crime fighting after he commandeered a kid's bike to chase down a suspected thief. Detailing the peculiar incident on their Facebook page, the Lone Tree Police Department recounted how the officer, Jacob Tarr, was initially pursuing the ne'er-do-well on foot before the desperate crook stole a motorized scooter in the hopes of making a speedy getaway. His plan was foiled, however, when the quick-thinking cop grabbed his own set of wheels in the form of a child's bike that was sitting outside of a residence.

The amusing body camera footage from the pursuit, which the department shared online, shows Tarr cruising down a road on the colorful bike while asking onlookers if they had "seen a guy on a scooter." According to the post, the suspect was eventually caught and charged with felony theft. In what might explain the man's determination to escape, police also discovered that there were three outstanding warrants for his arrest. Looking back on the remarkable bust, the department marveled "the suspect might've had a scooter, but Officer Tarr had determination, and a kid's bike."
