Video: 'Crying' Virgin Mary Statue Causes Stir in Mexican Town

By Tim Binnall

A family's home in Mexico has been besieged by visitors after their statue of the Virgin Mary inexplicably cried tears of what appeared to be blood. According to a local media report, the potentially miraculous case began on June 2nd when Don Miguel's son first noticed the strange substance that had appeared on the face of the piece. The family subsequently reported the puzzling development to their local priest, who promptly visited their home in the town of Obrera and confirmed that the curious 'crying' had occurred.

As one might imagine, word of the weird event quickly spread throughout the community and swarms of people soon began flocking to the home to see the statue for themselves. Of the hundreds of visitors who have ventured to the residence so far, those who were there this past Thursday undoubtedly found their faith rewarded when, before their very eyes, the piece reportedly began crying again. In this instance, the statue's 'tears' were clear liquid rather than a substance resembling blood.

In keeping with the Vatican's recently released protocols for possible supernatural events, the priest who first visited the home dutifully reported the case to the area archdiocese, which dispatched experts to collect samples of the perceived blood and tears. Tests on the material will presumably provide some insight into their source and how they wound up streaming from the eyes of the statue. While the investigation may ultimately find an earthly explanation for the event, one imagines that it will do little to sway the opinions of those who believe that something miraculous unfolded in the home.
