Workers at a Nebraska funeral home were understandably stunned when they discovered that a 'dead' woman who had recently arrived at the facility was actually still alive. According to a local media report, the eerie case began on Monday morning when staff at a nursing home in the community of Waverly concluded that Constance Glantz had passed away following a spell in hospice care. Her perceived remains were subsequently transported to a funeral home in the city of Lincoln, where workers set about preparing her arrangements shortly after her arrival. However, to their profound surprise, when they turned their attention to Glanz, they realized that she was still breathing.
Funeral home staff promptly phoned 911 about the strange situation and the woman was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital where she reportedly passed away a few hours later. In detailing the curious matter to the media, Lancaster County Sheriff Chief Deputy Ben Houchin aptly mused that it was "a very unusual case" unlike anything he has experienced in his over three decades in law enforcement. Stressing that "we have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home" that incorrectly pronounced Glanz dead, he indicated that authorities are investigating the situation to determine how such a mistake could have occurred.
