A bizarre colony of creatures that has taken the form of what some are calling a glowing "dinosaur egg" or "alien pod" was recently found in a Utrecht, Holland canal. Ecologists were initially baffled at the odd find until they determined the bag-like object was a collective of thousands of small and slimy invertebrates known as Bryozoans.
The growing pocket of creatures reportedly attached itself to a floating island in the Utrecht canal. This phenomenon is said to have originated in American waters where it has been called "the blob." While not said to be dangerous, when the colonies die off they can leave behind an unpleasant smell.
