In a bizarre story out of Nebraska, a mysterious individual made himself available to multiple people in separate odd traffic accidents, leaving those who have encountered the proverbial highway phantom to wonder if he was behind the strange events. The curious case reportedly began late last month when Kyle Sorenson ran over a bicycle that was sitting in the middle of a road in the community of Bennington. While looking to see if his car had been damaged, a man "pulled up behind me and it was this individual saying he was checking to make sure we were okay." Though nothing came of the seemingly good-natured exchange, it was the beginning of a truly weird series of events.
Shortly after Sorenson's encounter with the man, his wife drove by the same location and witnessed the mysterious individual tending to another accident. Things became even more eerie this past weekend when the highway phantom appeared under strange circumstances yet again. Sorenson's friend, Garrison Beach, was cruising down the highway when he spotted "a big piece of metal in the middle of the road" that caused him to swerve his car into a roadside ravine. While he and his wife, Skylar, came out of the accident unscathed, they were ultimately more unnerved when "this guy showed up" at the scene seconds after the crash. As one may have surmised by now, the helpful stranger was the same individual who offered to aid Sorenson.
Chillingly, Beach recalled that he noticed the man parked nearby prior to the accident in a manner that would seem to suggest that he was waiting for it to occur. Setting aside those suspicions, Sorenson observed that "in two weeks, this has been three incidents where he was immediately the first person on the scene. It seems strange." The two couples reported their respective accidents to the police while voicing their concerns that the cases were connected and possibly intentionally orchestrated. Meanwhile, a local television station covered their curious account, which led to the story taking a rather surreal twist.
Following a segment on the highway phantom (seen above), a mysterious individual reportedly left a voicemail for the TV station (featured below) wherein they said "this is Garrison Beach and I would like the news article about the accident to be removed." The caller was, of course, not the driver who swerved into the ravine a few weeks ago. “It's crazy that we're at the point of someone calling in and impersonating me on the phone to try and get the story taken down," the real Beach marveled. Presuming that the highway phantom felt compelled to call due to the attention brought about by the TV segment, the mysterious individual may be even more stressed now as the cops could be closing in on the culprit following a reported search of a nearby property on Wednesday.
