Residents of a neighborhood in Nicaragua say they are being tormented by an infamous supernatural being known as a Mona Bruja or 'Monkey Witch.' According to a local media report, the strange case is currently unfolding in an area within the city of Diriamba. A longstanding legend in Latin American countries, particularly Nicaragua, the Mona Bruja is said to be a witch who transforms into a diminutive red-eyed monkey with a debilitating shriek and a penchant for running along rooftops. Recently, people living in Diriamba's Roberto Clemente neighborhood have begun to suspect that the folkloric figure has taken up residence in their community.
One frightened resident, who opted not to reveal his face for a TV station reporting on the situation, recounted hearing the Mona Bruja tapping on the wall of his home before suddenly running along the roof. "That's paranormal," the man marveled, claiming to have caught a glimpse of it as it was fleeing the scene. The witness went on to indicate that people living in the neighborhood attempted to capture the unsettling interloper, but lamented that the Mona Bruja is seemingly aware of their scheme and refuses to manifest "when one is waiting for her."
Lest one thinks the case in Diriamba is an isolated incident, a similar suspected incursion by the 'Monkey Witch' in Nicaragua reportedly occurred back in 2021 when people in the city of Granada were certain that the entity was in their midst due to sizable stones that were mysteriously being thrown onto the roofs of their homes. Much like this more recent event, witnesses claimed to have encountered the Mona Bruja and a general hysteria erupted in the community with a posse forming to put a stop to the magical mischief. However, when the 'witch' was eventually caught, the entity turned out to simply be a young man causing trouble, which one hopes will wind up being the case in Diriamba as well.
